The Hill’s VW T6 Caravelle Conversion
Combining a variety of the conversion elements available at NWCC the Hill’s customised a unique build suited to their exact requirements. Anything is possible with patience, perseverance and the skilled craftsmanship available in house at NWCC.
The caravelle conversion within this T6 pushed the specification to the ultimate limits of what is achievable within this vehicle. When discussing potential builds with clients ahead of a conversion, after listing their requirements we tend to guide them into one of the listed conversions available; The Hills’ had other ideas and were certain on customising something specific to suit them.
The majority of the works completed to this vehicle are a combination of popular conversion elements which are completed weekly in house at NWCC. All builds start with the initial lining stages and the option of the addition of an elevating roof. To gain maximum space and sleeping capacity the SCA elevating roof was a must for this build, also upgrading to include the SCA panoramic canvas which has been a welcomed new option for 2017.
This vehicle offers so much versatility, being a luxurious passenger carrier, it is also a motorhome and on occasion it can revert back to a simple load carrier. This family were happy to wait and secure a genuine VW OEM full Nappa leather Caravelle interior, which is one of only three that we have been able to source in previous years. NWCC’s in house upholsterer has reupholstered the original driver & passenger comfort seats to coincide with the rear seating ensuing that all seats within the vehicle match.
There are lots of firsts for team NWCC within this vehicle. After demonstrating the use and practicality of the Van Shades within our 2017 demonstration vehicles the Hills’ were the first family to opt for this upgrade. The Window Pod® system is a modern easy to install, ready made blind and frame system which offers stylish privacy. A tasteful alternative to curtains, Window Pods® achieve a flawless modern finish to the windows whilst offering blackout and thermal qualities.
The rear tailgate door has been completely transformed with the installation of a genuine OEM California rear door pocket and accessories. A minefield of parts to order direct from VW but once we got our heads around the 20+ part numbers that we needed it was time to configure the tailgate pocket, the results speak for themselves.
The Hills’ didn’t want a traditional camper conversion, it just didn’t work with their lifestyle. Neither did they want a simple passenger carrier, they wanted the best of both which is certainly achievable when you put your mind to it. Wanting to ensure that this vehicle offered the family every opportunity for multiple use NWCC took the time to design and perfect the manufacturing of two individual rear camping pods, suitable for use internally within the vehicle and externally at a campsite, at the beach or where ever the road takes them.
The pods housed leisure industry leading products with a Dometic HBG 2335 Two Burner Gas Hob and a Smev VA8005NT Square Sink. They were designed to house two 901 gas bottles and two 12L water tanks ensuring both a fresh and waste tank were onboard at all times. There was even enough room left over to ensure that the Thetford porta potti (335 Qube) toilet had a discreet location.
The perimeters of the camping pods & the rear multiflex board have been constructed with aluminium profiling to ensure that they are weather proof, and almost indestructible. The main reason that the kitchen cubes have been constructed from an anodised aluminium is so that they can be used externally out of the vehicle on concrete, on grass etc… without damaging the HPL furniture board.
This was a challenging build for NWCC although it looks relatively simple; With the Hills’ being new to the leisure industry they wanted to achieve so much from this vehicle but didn’t quite know how. After multiple emails, phone calls, and in house consultations both the Hills’ and team NWCC are thrilled with the end result.
