Connor’s “Work & Play” VW Caddy-Maxi
When Connor booked onto the NWCC schedule for a build slot in early July 2018 he was as little disappointed with the waiting time as he had planned a 3-month world trip which he wanted to start at the end of June. In recent weeks as team NWCC have yet again been awaiting a delayed delivery from VW we quickly decided to bring a small build in as an infill to keep everyone busy at the workshop. Connor was first on the list and with a quick phone call the van was delivered the next day for its transformation.
Connor needs this vehicle for multi use both for “work and play”, The options had to be both functional and practical keeping the van warm, quite and user friendly. The first thing that team NWCC started with was a full strip down and a huge injection of SKINZ sound kill from the masters at Four-Audio, Skinz has been applied to all corners of this build even the plastic bulkhead and factory barn door glass security panels.
Once the SKINZ was installed we swiftly moved onto the 10mm thermo liner and birch ply panelling which was then finished with an acoustic trunk liner, including removable panelling for future works and maintenance. Connor also opted for the NWCC famous slatted headliner but instead of the usual Alcantara finish he decided to opt for the vinyl finish providing a wipe down friendly surface. Connor needed this vehicle to house its own power source for when staying at those off grid camping spots which will be a must on his journey so a cool 150 flush fit solar panel, 105AH leisure battery and CTEK management system was installed to work in conjunction with the regenerative euro 6 engine.
A few practical electrical upgrades fitted internally to make those beautiful off grid camp spots feel a little more like home with USB charge points, 12v power points, and LED crisp white lighting overhead. The build now showcases a neat and practical layout within the van making it ready for work and play proving you dont have to spend a fortune on a motorhome to enjoy any European camp spots.
