MR H Build: Transforming a Blank Canvas into a Family Adventure Van
Every great build begins with a vision, and for the MR H build, that vision started with a brand new, plain white panel van delivered straight from Sinclair Cardiff. This simple Highline model, featuring barn doors and a bulkhead, Is the perfect foundation for some exciting modifications tailored to the customer’s desires.
**A Clean Start**
The first step in our process is always meticulous: washing and signing in the vehicle. We then body wrap to protect it, ensuring it’s ready for the next phases. Bags are prepared for the removal of the bulkhead and cutting of the windows. Anyone who has visited New-Wave HQ knows that Mike’s philosophy is always, prioritizes organization and cleanliness. This approach keeps every build protected from swarf and dust while we cut out the bulkhead and apertures for the glass installation.
**Sound Deadening Excellence**
Once the initial preparations were complete, we dive into the sound deadening stage, utilizing three top-quality products from
Pro sound and thermal We began with a layer of 2mm premium hex sound deadening in the cargo area, followed by a 7mm closed-cell foam thermo layer, and finally topped off with a plush 50mm thermo fleece. Our commitment is to use products and brands that share our values of quality and service, ensuring we push the boundaries of what’s possible.
**Craftsmanship in Moulding**
Next, we installed fresh CNC-cut panels finished in AS Trunkliner, expertly moulded to the cargo area’s metalwork. This moulding process is truly an art form, employing specific temperature-tested glue and steam to achieve a seamless, one-piece lining that provides a warm, car-like feel.
**A Stunning Ceiling Design**
Looking upwards, the ceiling reveals a captivating design. The ribbed, boat-like ceiling slates are wrapped in OEM fabric, blending seamlessly with the factory cab headliner. To enhance the atmosphere, we wrapped the perimeter with halo mood lighting, complete with a dimmer function and six downlights, illuminating the rear space beautifully.
**Attention to Detail**
Relocating the factory square courtesy lights was essential for maintaining symmetry, placing one over the sliding door and another in the rear load space. We used brand-new Sportline rear combi seats from a brand-new Sportline van currently undergoing a full camper conversion, ensuring continuity in style and functionality.
We replaced the rigid dual passenger seat with a travel in-style single passenger seat, featuring lumbar support, height adjustment, and armrests. These seats were trimmed in a luxurious Alcantara and leather combo to match the rear seats, and while the van was stripped down, we added heated seat elements for those chilly winter mornings.
**Finishing Touches**
To meet the customer’s additional requests, we included rear USB/C power points, 12V power points, and a removable tow bar option. What we consider a minimalist build has completely transformed the dynamics of the van, making it an ideal family vehicle for adventures, capable of carrying all the kids gear and bikes.
We hope the H family enjoy their newly converted van and look forward to their return for the next chapter, which will include wheels, spoilers, lowering, side bars, and more.t We are excited to be part of their journey!
