The James’ VW T6 Traditional ‘LUX’ Camper Conversion

What a journey this family have been on to achieve their ideal VW T6 Conversion; Visiting NWCC during the summer of 2017 they booked the next available conversion slot which at the time was for February 2018. Having a few months to deliberate the conversion specification and purchase a base vehicle, it came down to the last second to secure the perfect base vehicle.

Initially sourcing an ex-lease vehicle, when the vehicle arrived at NWCC the team made the decision to reject the it on the basis that we didn’t feel it was fit for purpose due to paint imperfections, dents etc .. or worth the money that the vehicle was purchased for. With a full refund on the initial vehicle the James’ family decided the best solution was to take the opportunity to purchase the in stock at NWCC factory order Bamboo Green T6 at a highly discounted price.

With a brand new VW T6 Highline Kombi in the fantastic Bamboo Green metallic, subtle changes have been made to the exterior to achieve the road presence this family wanted. The original VW T6 standard OEM headlights were particularly poor, whereas the upgraded headlights seen here are designed to look more like the genuine VW T6 L.E.D headlights with the DRL strip. The projector light units give a much better light output by using H7 and H1 bulbs.

The BBS SX 18″ alloy wheels in crystal black with the 5 spoke (split) wheel design are a modern twist on the classic 5 spoke design. Planning to mainly use the van as a daily drive it was best to opt for the 18” BBS and 30mm Eibach combination providing comfort and practicality for day to day drivability.

Many conversions completed in house at NWCC are extremely similar, the James’ certainly wanted to stand out with the materials that they picked opting for materials never chosen before. The Figura Chatsworth flooring perfectly compliments the Mocha granite solid surface worktop, both contrasting against the bleached Walnut cabinetry. Surprisingly with all combined the French navy Autolux leather upholstery looks superb boldly sitting within the vehicle.

The build hosts a whole list of gadgets with the Kenwood DNX 516 DABS Multimedia system, Kenwood CMOS 230 reverse camera and Kenwood dash cam DRV 410. To complete the conversion the vehicle had been sealed with the highly recommend Gtechniq Platinum; The global leader in high performance surface coating technology, the brand behind nano-based Smart Surface Science for the automotive industry.
