VW T6.1 Caravelle
“But you see…” explains Mr C, pausing for thought, “I want the van to be nice and warm when I sit in the back with a cuppa’, after I’ve been walking up Pen Y Fan.”
Mike recommends that we fit a Webasto diesel heater and leisure battery, to which all parties signal their agreement with profuse nods.
Those returning to the New Wave blog with note that this is not Mr C’s first New Wave build, or even his second nor third. Adding to an impressive fleet of NWCC customised vehicles within the family, this van started life as our usual New Wave order…
A T6.1 150 DSG with a single slide door, glazed tailgate panel van with full highline specification and factory front swivel seating.
“Business in the front, party in the back.”
Mr C requested something slightly different to our usual Verso’s, wanting a vehicle more suited to business use, travelling up and down the country visiting sites. Our famous NWCC build quality and refinements would also allow for plenty of weekend adventures too, hauling the family with a full Caravelle 6-seater conversion.
It’s late spring and the vehicle arrives with us in Llantrisant, the team immediately begin a full strip down and begin rebuilding the interior.
Consisting of a full floor rail system with 6 single seats, four of which have a swivel capacity, perfect for socialising with family and friends when out and about.
Our famous NWCC floating black Alcantara headliner is installed throughout the rear and front cab, seamlessly matching the cabin plastics that the team refinish from standard grey to satin black.
More simple yet effective touches help finish the interior; black smooth Nappa leather upholstery is chosen for the custom seating, finished with a black top stitch.
Of course, the obvious choice for flooring was black latex backed carpeting… perfect for on-site visits or muddy dog walks due to it’s hardwearing and waterproof properties.
A man of excellent taste, Mr C agrees that an ‘OEM+’ exterior finish would be a fantastic choice for the vehicle, taking stylistic cues from Porsche and Audi RS models.
As the build draws to a close, the perfect useable and everyday stance is achieved through a set of BBS SX 18” wheels, paired with a set of Eibach adjustable coil-overs and stainless steel trapeze side bars.
Whilst fitting the wheels, Mike is sure to remind us that opting for an 18” which over a 19” allows for a 45-profile tyre, vastly improving road comfort.
With the collection date just around the corner, finishing touches are added to the exterior; consisting of an ABT 3-piece front moulding and privacy glass to the rear.
Whilst it may not be the cheapest option on the market, the quality and fitment of the ABT T6.1 kit is simply unbeatable.
In matching NWCC T-shirts, Mike is completing the collection process on a glorious early summer’s day. It’s smiles all round and another successful handover is complete!
Once again, a huge thank you to Mr C for his repeat custom… we’re sure that we’ll see him again on the next visit!
